Show Emery County Progress Tuesday, August 18, 1987 7 A BLM seeks cleanup Take pride in America; clean up the public lands. To encourage citizens to that follow admonition, Congress passed the Federal Lands Cleanup Act and the first Saturday after Labor Day each year (thats Sept. 12 in 1987) as Federal Lands Cleanup Day. The act directs each federal agency (such as the Bureau of Land Management, Forest Service, National Park Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service) to organize citizens, state and local agencies in cleaning up and improving federal public lands, recreation areas and waterways. That plan also is the objective of the nationwide Take Pride in America Workfest Week, Sept. Some of those activities, in addition to the most common practice of picking up litter, include painting and repairing picnic tables, planting browse, doing wildlife habitat improvement, building gabions, making stream improvements, installing and maintaining guzzlers to provide water for wildlife in areas, and constructing trails. Persons interested in. volunteering to participate in such projects may contact the back-count- ry nearest land management agency office, including BLM offices in Cedar City, Escalante, Fillmore, Hanksville, Kanab, Moab, Monticello, Price, Richfield, St. George, Salt Lake City and Vernal. If Sept. 12 is inconvenient for an organization, activities on another day may be reported as part of the Federal Lands Cleanup Day Program, Robison pointed out. However, one objective of the campaign is to prepare areas and facilities for the winter months. Park to be dedicated Dedication ceremonies for Fremont Indian State Park will be held Saturday, Aug. 22, 1987 at 1 p.m. The park is located 24 miles southwest of Richfield in Clear Creek Canyon. Fremont Indian State Park was established by the Utah Legislature in 1985 to preserve Clear Creek Canyons treasury of rock art and archeological sites. In November 1983, the largest known Fremont village was uncovered during construction of through Clear Creek Canyon. The site includes some 80 residential structures and pithouses and many storage 1-- granaries. Seven tons of cultural material including pottery and obsidian used to make arrowheads have been found. The visitor center and museum has been open since July 1, 1987. Flyers to enter regional tourney The Emery County Flyers womens softball team attended the Utah State B Class Fastpitch Softball Tournament where they took held Aug. first place.
