The coach said that those returning starters will give the team the experience it needs, however. Back are Joel Wilson, Devin Arnold, Shane Trapp, Steven Jorgensen, Dell Stilson and Darren Halliday. Each will be seeing action both ways this season. In the early going, coach Jones has concluded that the Spartans should have a much improved defensive unit this season. Along the defensive line will be Halliday, a who, at 66 265 lbs., can be a force at tackle. Jones said he has seen Halliday mature over the years to the point where he is ready to take charge. Also at tackle is junior David Turner, 63 200 lbs., who was a JV starter last season. Hes a hard worker and very strong inside, the coach said. Other tackles include Kevin Johnson, a sophomore, and junior Mike Willson. At the defensive end positions, the coach lists Nathan Spencer, a 65 197 lb. junior whom he describes as the quickest lineman hes worked with while at Emery.
