Show Miss Bonnie Benson, daughter of Mr. and Mrt. Glen Benton, i home from Washington, D.C. A change in Wast Jordan Third Ward Primary has been reported. Mrs. Barbara Barben waa released from the presidency and Mra. Eva-livia Eva-livia Burton waa auatained to take her place, to be assisted by first counselor to the president, Mrs. Emma Merlin, with Mrs. Lena Wag-staff Wag-staff remaining as second counselor. New primary teachers are Blanch Jones, Alta Sorensen and Ramona Burton. The Trekkert and Guilds attended atten-ded a movie film on the Hag of our country along with other wards in the stake on Tuesday, Feb. 20. (Continued on oaie three) basketball game which ended with score of 27-24. This game which was played Saturday, March 3rd, tied the two teams for first place. Each team has now lost one game and a play-off game will determine the champions. This game will be played this Saturday, March 10, at the West Jordan Stake House at J:00 p.m. M. A. Wixom, who recently underwent un-derwent surgery at St. Mark's Hospital, Hos-pital, came home Sunday from the hospital and ia reported getting a-long a-long nicely. Dinner guests Sunday at home of Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Wixom and family were Mrs. Josephine Bate-man, Bate-man, and Mrs. Effie Wixom of West Jordan, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Brown and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bateman of Holladay. Austin Butterworth is home from St. Mark's Hospital recuperating from surgery. Sam Adondakis is in Holy Cross Hospital lor treatment of his back. Mr. and Mrs. Mark L. Money and four children, Nolan, Cynthia, David end Bruce have arrived, from San Marino, Calif., to make their new home in Salt Lake City. They are staying temporarily at the home of Mr. and Mra. Royal Spratling, parents of Mrs. Money, until they find a place. West Jordan Fourth Ward Relief Society is holding their regular work day next Tuesday, March 14, starting at 10:30 a.m. There will also be a program followed by a luncheon to celebrate the anniversary annivers-ary of the founding of the Relief Society. All ladies of the ward are invited. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bowen and Mrs. Barbara Wheatley spent last Sunday at Evanston, Wyo. Monday evening visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Hettrick Sr. were rkeir man and family. Mr. and Mrs. Mrs. James Malkos, Mrs. Ceo r go Makris, Mrs. Cus Bolaris, Mrs. Sam Kastanis, Mrs. Rose Kouris, Mrs. Frun Haun and Mrs. Sally Wood attended a fashion show and luncheon lun-cheon at the Union Building on the University of Utah campus given by the Creek Orthodox Ladies Society So-ciety last Saturday afternoon, March 3rd. All parents of students at West Jordan Jr. High were invited to attend the Junior High Science Fair held at the school in West Jordan Thursday night (last night), at 7:30 p.m. There was also an hour program in the school auditorium consisting of a concert and P-TA elections following which parents went to the gym to see the display of models, charts and demonstrations demonstra-tions prepared by students in the science 'department. Babies recently blessed in West I Jordan Third Ward were Maile Kaye Lane, daughter of Willie and Kaye Horrocks Lane; and Jamie C. Allen, son of William C. and Loa Graham Allen. David Arnold Shaw was recently baptized and confirmed in the West Jordan Third Ward. Recent ordinations in West Jordan Jor-dan Third Ward were Richard C. Brown to the office of elder and Wilford D. Richards to the office of a high priest. On Tuesday, March 6, the West Jordan Third Ward Relief Society visiting teachers meeting lesson had as its objective "To Show Power Pow-er and Blessings of Faith" after which regular Relief Society was held at which the lesson was "Endure "En-dure Unto the- End". Both lessons were well given and heartily accepted ac-cepted by all attending. Women in the ward are invited to come to Relief Society and renew and make new acquaintances and participate in their activities. Next Tuesday, March 1 3, there will be a birthday party to commemorate the organization organi-zation of the Relief Society which was founded March 17, 1842, 120 years ago by the Prophet Joseph Smith. Regular work activities are planned from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A special birthday luncheon will be served at 12:30 and a short program presented at this time. Sunday, March I I, will be a welcome wel-come home for Cayle Gardner who recently returned from an LDS mission for West Jordan 1st- ward. Clyde Hettrick Jr. and son, Clyde III, of Salt Lake City. Renae Egbert was badly cut in an accident bu is okay now. JAMES M. WHITMORE, TEACHER AT WEST JORDAN JR. HIGH PASSES AWAY Funeral services for James Montgomery Mont-gomery Whitmore, 65, of Granite, a teacher in the Jordan School District for 33 years and principal cf the Granite and Crescent schools for 1 7 years, who died last Saturday, Satur-day, March 3, in a Salt Lake hospital hos-pital of a heart ailment, were held Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. in the Mid-vale Mid-vale Second LDS Ward chapel, Midvale. Mr. Whitmore was a teacher at the West Jordan Jr. High School for many year at which school he wa teaching at the time of hi death. Several membera of the school faculty served as honorary pallbearers, the 9th grade girls chorus sang and Lowell Hicks played the organ at the service. Mr. Whitmore was also a member mem-ber of the origina) Granite Civic Committee and a secretary of the Granite Water Board. He was born Feb. 24. 1897. in Salt Lake City, a son of Samuel M. and Elizabeth L. Crange Whitmore. He married Cora Merle Lindsay in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Sept. 9, 1926. An active member of the LDS Church, he was bishop of the Granite Gran-ite Ward from 1941 to 1945 and in the superintendetvey of the Sunday Sun-day School for 1 5 years. Ho filled a mission to the Hawaiian Island from 1921 to 1924. He served in the Army during World War I. Surviving him are his widow; sons and daughters, Robert S. Whitmore, Whit-more, Salt Lake City; LaVoy E., Merle and Keith L Whitmore, all of Granite; Mrs. Leonard (Wanda) Rowley, Ogden, and 14 grandchildren. grandchil-dren. Also surviving are the following fol-lowing brothers and sisters: Lynn S. Whitmore, Overton, Nev. j Mrs. Alma (Ora) Fairbourn, Crescent; Mr. Leslie A. (Elizabeth) Lind, Midvale: Mr. L. K. Whitmore, Whit-more, Sandy' and Mrs. A. Kay (Sammie) Voyce, Redwood City, Calif. Interment was in Midvale City Cemetery. WEST JORDAN (Continued from page two) Recently in West Jordan Third Ward MIA, the Laural class feted their fathers with a lovely formal dinner brought, prepared and served ser-ved by themselves, and the combined com-bined Beehive classes had a "Virtue, more precious than Rubies" night with Mrs. Golden Berrett as guest speaker, light refreshments were served and an outstanding music appreciation activity was held with guest panelists Virginia Kelly, Norma Nor-ma Bateman and Joy Wixom that all young people enjoyed highly. The ward volleyball team is also playing their games too. On Feb. 27, the Explorers, Laurels and Mia Maids held their kitchen carnival and on Wednesday, March 14 the Stake MIA will hold their Laurel fashion show.
