Show Green Thumbers launch Senior Citizen month Green Thumb workers in Utah launched Senior Citizens Month today with a call for the nation to "THINK GREEN" and put some oxygen back into the air. Mr. John M. Zupko, Green Thumb State Director, said that the 70 Green Thumb workers in the state have pledged to plant some 3000 new trees tills year. Last year Green Thumbers planted more than 3000 trees within the state. Dr. Blue A. Carstenson, National Director of Green Thumb, Inc., told the Green Thumbers in a message released today that they should help to focus public attention on environmental problems. He urged them to continue their projects at beautification and community betterment. He said that "the planting of trees can do much to help put some clean oxygen back into our polluted skies. " He said that trees absorb carbon dioxide from the air and release oxygen. Dr. Carstenson further explained that the planting of trees help in two ways. Trees help to keep streams and rivers clean by preventing soil erosion and they produce oxygen. Soil erosion is considered to be one of the major causes of stream pollution.
