Boy Scouts of Troop 307 In Ferron helped the Forest Service plant trees in the Ferron Canyon Picnic Area. On Arbor Day the Boy Scouts planted 50 Green Ash and 25 Jeffery Pine trees. These trees were grown at the Forest Service Lucky Peak Nursery near Boise, Idaho. Ferron Picnic Area, a popular recreation site In Ferron Canyon is rapidly losing its shade trees. The "Old Cottonwood" trees are dying. Many of the trees have dead centers and limbs. A tree In this condition In a campground or picnic area Is a serious safety hazard and must be re- moved. Seedling trees planted In a picnic area have a hard time surviving the damage caused by people. The Forest Service and Boy Scouts who planted the trees ask you who use the Ferron Canyon Picnic area to please protect these young trees. Give them a chaoce to become well established, that they may grow to provide shade and enjoyment for years to come. Following the tree planting the beys and leaders held a picnic. There were 15 boys and 3 Forest Service employees.
