Show trict Social security benefits slated Special social security benefits will begin for some persons age 72 and over in October, according to Kesler T. Powell, Social Security District Manager. These payments will be up to $35.00 per month for and up to $52.00 per month for married couples if both qualify for these special payments. Mr. Powell said that persons receiving cash welfare payments would not be entitled to the special payments. The special payment is reduced if an individual, or his or her spouse, is eligible for a governmental payment established by the U. S., or state, or a political subdivision of either. If the governmental pension or annuity exceeds (he total amount of the special payment to the individaul or to the married couple, then neither will be entitled to the special payment. Mr. Powell said that to be eligible for the special payment a person must be a resident of one of toe 50 states, or the Dis of Columbia. He must also be a citizen of the United States, or lawfully admitted and a resident for the past five years. He emphasized that no applications were necessary if the person age 72 were already enrolled for Medicare. For others, the social security office is accepting applications. If you are over age 72 or believe that you meet the requirements to receive the special payment you should file an application before November 1, 1966. A representative from the Social Security office will be at the Courthouse in Price on the 11th of October from 9 a m. to 3 p.m. and will be happy to help anyone interested.
