This report is designed to inform you about the quality of the water and services we deliver to you every day. Our constant goal is to provide you with a safe and dependable supply of drinking water. We want you to understand the efforts we make to continually improve the water treatment process and protect our water resources. We are committed to ensuring the quality of your water. Our water sources are Source 1: George White Well 4 and Source 2: George White Well 5. The wells draw water from the Glenn Canyon Aquifer. Were pleased to report that our drinking water is safe and meets federal and state requirements. If you have any questions about this report or concerning your water utility, please contact Dale F. Pierson, ManagerOperator (435) We want our valued customers to be informed about their water utility. If you want to learn more, please attend any of our regularly scheduled meetings. They are held on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Agency Office, 3025 E. Spanish Trail Road, Moab, Utah, 84532. Grand Water & Sewer Service Agency routinely monitors for constituents in our drinking water in accordance with Federal and Utah State laws. The following table shows the results of our monitoring for the period of January 1st to December 31st, 2001. All drinking water, including bottled drinking water, may be reasonably expected to contain at least small amounts of some constituents. Its important to remember that the presence of these constituents does not necessarily pose a health risk. In the following table you will find many terms and abbreviations you might not be familiar with. Tb help you better understand these terms weve provided the fol259-812- 1. lowing definitions: Non-Detec- ts (ND) - laboratory analysis indicates that the constituent is not present. Parts per million (ppm) or Milligrams per liter mgl - one part per million corresponds to one minute in two years or a single penny in $10,000 Parts per billion (ppb) or Micrograms per liter ( ug1 - one part per billion corresponds to one minute in 2,000 years, or a single penny in $10,000,000. Picoeuries per liter (pCiL) - picocuries per liter is a measure of the radioactivity in water. Millirems per year (mremyr) - measure of radiation absorbed by the body Million Fibers per Liter (MFL) - million filers per liter is a measure of the presence of asbestos fibers that are longer than 10 micrometers. Nephelometric Turbidity Unit (NTU) - nephelometric turbidity unit is a measure of the clarity of water. Turbidity in excess of 5 NTU is just noticeable to the average person. Action Level (AL) - the concentration of a contaminant which, if exceeded, triggers treatment or other requirements which a water system must follow. Treatment Technique (TT) - A treatment technique is a required process intended to reduce the level of a contaminant in drinking water. Maximum Contaminant Ievel (MCL) - The Maximum Allowed" ( MCL) is the highest level of a contaminant that is allowed in drinking water. MCLs are set as close to the MCLGs as feasible using the best available treatment technology. ) Maximum Contaminant Level Goal (MCLG) - (mandatory language) The GoaHMCLG) is the level of a contaminant in drinking water below which there is no known or expected risk to health. MCLGs allow for a margin of safety. Date- - Because of required sampling time frames i e. yearly, 3 years, 4 years and 6 years, sampling dates may seem out of date. Waivers (W)-- Because some chemicals are not used or stored in areas around drinking water sources, some water systems have been given waivers that exempt them from having to take certain chemical samples, these waivers are also tied to Volatile Inorganic Contaminant Source Protection GW&SSA has a source ourca of contamination remote and unmhahitwd our ouron to toeroto r tor review at toe Agency protoeton plan tor al of 4s in the touroa protection area The plan identrA and monitor for any potential Ve ena identified a the source protection arm an then an no potential contamination source within the protection area We consider have a low uoeptibty tor contamination The source protection plan an available otoce A What dowe thte moan? can ee by the table our avstant had no violation We proud that your drinking water exceed al W have teamed through our mondonnq and testing that ome constituents Federal and State reourement have bean detected The EPA ha determined that your water IS SAFE at the leva Aa you Al ouro pf drinking water era eutyed to potent contamination by con!uents Vwl an netuey occurring or an men made Those constituent can be microbe orpanre or morgamc chemical or radioactive mater Th prenc of oontamlnant doe not necestary nckcMe V the water pose a health risk More information about contaminant and potent heath eect can ba obtained by eating th Environmental Protection Agency Sato Oinking Water Hotkn al (800) 28-- 1 791 MCI ar t at vary Mnryent level To understand toe poastoto heath eect described tor many regulated to kk 2 Mar of water every day at toe MCI level tor a Mebma to hava a paroon would ha chance of hevwig fie described heath effeci oonttuents a Some people mey be more vukwebte to contaminant to dAng water than the gene population person auch a person with cancer undergong chemotherapy person who have undergone organ Veriaplant people srth HTVAIDS or other pvnue eystem disorder some ekieriy an d nfam can ba perin'ulariy at n from ttouton These people mould seek sdvs ebout dnnkng water kom the heath car EPAAX3C gutoettoe on acproprswe meen to toseen toe nek of infection by crvrtosoondwm and provider Other micro bwtogn contaminant are siseabt from toe Sato Drinkng Water Hcttne (800) Immuno-compromise-d 28-47- We at Grand Water I Sewer Sendee Agency wodi around toe ckx to provide top juey water to every tap We ask tost al our customer help u protect our water source whsch we th heed of our community our way Of Ito and our ctoftd'eet future Flease ce our oto e I f you have due ebon |
