Four out of five adults that are addicted to tobacco began using it before age 18, and most adults addicted to alcohol and other drugs are also addicted to cigarettes. Preventing youth from starting to smoke or chew tobacco has been shown to be very effective in reducing the likelihood that they will use tobacco or other drugs as adults. The Tobacco Prevention Specialist has an office at Four Corners Mental Health (198 East Center Street), and she invites youth and adults to call or stop by to ask questions about the program, and contribute ideas about the school district policy and community involvement with the issue of youth and tobacco. Citizens interested in reviewing the draft school district policy may obtain a copy from the TPS.
