Show APRIL 26-MA- 2. 2001 Y THE Utah communities to receive $8 million in federal block grant money Communities throughout Utah will receive $8 million in federal Community Development Block Grants for a variety of local improvement projects and human- - service needs. The funds are due to be sent to Utah this month. Utah receives millions of dollais each year in Community Development Block Grant funds. And for the first time, Gov Mike Leavitt has officially recognized the importance of those funds to the states communities. The governor proclaimed the week of Apr. Utah Community DeWeek. Since 1982 in Utah, velopment the Community Development Block Grant program has had a significant impact on our local economies through job creation and retention, physical redevelopment, and improved local tax bases, according to the governor. Community Development Block 16-2- 2 Grants are disbursed to the Utah Di- vision of Community Development by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The divisions CDBG program then distributes the money to each of the states seven regional Associations of Governments. Communities apply through their regions AOGs for grants for qualified projects. Those projects include the operation of human-servic- e programs and agencies, the purchase and rehabilitation of homes for low- - and moderate-in- residents, the planning and construction of public buildings, come initiatives, economic-developme- and water, sewer and sidewalk upgrades.
