Over the past 12 months, the indexes increased 2.7 percent and 2.8 percent, respectively. The education and communication index rose 0.8 percent in March after showing no change the previous month. Since March 2000, education and communication costs have in- creased 2.1 percent. The recreation index decreased 0.2 percent this month, matching the decline in February. However, recreation costs are up 1.6 percent over the past year. Medical care costs inched down 0. 1 percent this past month, following a 0.9 percent increase in February. Nevertheless, compared to a year ago, medical care costs are 5.1 percent higher. Costs of other goods and services decreased a slight 0.1 percent in March, yet are 2.9 percent above last years level.
