Assessment for 1922 Is 7 J2 Per Cent, or $20,000,000, Below That for 1921. Decline in Mining Activity for More Responsible Than, Half of Amount. Rearer The grand recapitulation of the 1922 assessment of property by the state board of equalization was completed yesterday by the clerical force of that body , under guidance of Roscoe E. Hammond, Rebecca Tonic, chief dork. The tabulation shows not only the total assessments for classes of property already reported, but also the distribution of the assessments fixed by the state board among the counties of the state. It is shown, among other things, that. and subject to equalization bv state boards of equalization, the assessed valuation of Salt county for 1922 fails almost $20,000,000 below the figures for 1921, This means that If county rates are maintained at the same figures as last year the revenue of the county from property taxes may be estimated at 7.2 per cent less than It was last year. In many other 'counties the rate of reduction Is much heavier, although the amount of the reduction Is smaller However, analyses of valuations of property made by county assessors leads to the conclusion that some changes will yet be made In county valuations. In .Balt I.ake county the slump of last year In the mining industry was responsible for practically all the fll.000.ft40 decrease shown In the state boards figures, while County Assessor M. I,.
