Likenesses of most of the pretty candidates for the "Peach this year are now on display in the show window of a local photographer. A special feature of the event this year will be the appearance of Miss Utah in the person of Florence Anderson of Brigham City, who will appear, but not compete in the contest, Mils Anderson having agreed to do this at the request of the committee. In addition to the honors above mentioned the winner of the contest will receive a fall outfit complete in conformance with the custom of previous years. Another innovation this year will be the furnishing of the latest in bathing costumes by the committee free of charge, these affairs being had from Spalding. In addition to the names published in the last issue of this paper, Miss Lucille Fawson of Brigham City has been added and it la expected that there will be several dark horses entered the first of next week. $44 PIANO AT Phone HAY FOR SALE 350-- (It) U - ALFALFA Outfit Your Boy I explained all this and showed my admission ticket to the reserved section of the Salt Lake tabernacle, and finally was allowed to enter Canada. One of the first signs I saw was, Drink Canada Dry. That seemed significant since all travelers coming from the United States are popularly supposed to bo thirsty. It was just an innocent advertisement, however, of Ginger Ale. I asked the proprietor of the restaurant where we ate breakfast, what formality was necessary to qualify to buy liquor just out of curiosity as to forms and practices, of course. He said a permit could be had for $2.00 which entitled the holder to purchase liquor at a government dispensary for a period of thirty days. Since we were to be there only a half day, we passed up what some people would regard as an "opportunity. NIAGARA FALLS one of the wonders of the world! You feel rather than see what eternity might be like. How many thousands of years has. such volumes of water been plunging over those precipices. I don't know how much water there is in the river, but statistics are available, showing that 6 per cent only of the water goes over the American Falls, the other 94 per cent going over the Canadian, or Horseshoe Falls. Both falls are seen better from the Canadian side. Guides are on hand to show visitors around, but if you have your own conveyance, get some literature, take your time in poring over the information it contains and then drive your own conveyance taking your time for that, too. There isnt anything that a guide can tell you that you cant find out for yourself, and youll save about $4.50. The guide costs you $5.00; the difference between this sum and the aforementioned $4.50 is the price of the book of instructions. One important office of the falls is to accentuate your insignificance. You feel so little that you get the impression you are being drawn into the water. The guide told us how many people had committed suicide there last year, but Ive forgotten the number. I read in our own dailies last Sunday of three during just the past week. That's rather more than the average, but the number is considerable. And, you can understand it, in a degree. On the Fourth of July this year a man went over in a barrel, but the barrel was so heavy that it cut through the water and lodged back of the great fall. No one knew what had become of him until a searching party found him the next day and he had smothered to death. A Frenchman went over in 1928 in a specially constructed rubber ball, and lived to tell about it. He tells about it every day in a sort of museum near the Horseshoe Falls, and sells photographs of himself for 10 cents apiece. What a price to pay for a days glory! Its forgotten in a day, so to speak, because it doesnt serve any good purpose. I read in the papers a few days ago where the governments of the United States and Canada are taking steps to prevent s any further such exhibitions. It time. high (To be continued.)
