Adams takes his daughter and his wife to her fathers home and leaves for Washington. With difficulty he secures a brief leave of absence. Donning a Confederate uniform he succeeds In stealing his way thru the Confederate lines to his daughter's bedside. He finds his daughter recovering rapidly but can spend only a moment with her as he is dis covered and forced to flee. In order to elude his pursuers he takes a desperate drop trem a cilff and is injured. With a great deal of effort he gets back to the Uaxi: camp. In the final attack On Richmoa J, a few weeks later, Major Adams, in charge of a Union force, is attempting to capture a bridge ably defended by Major Chase, his brother-in-laAdams men are the more successful, and Chase, forced to relinquish the bridge, decides to destroy it. When the Union forces are half way across, the bridge is blown to pieces. It is the most spectacula? and expensive incident ever introduced in a film. Both Adams and Chase are injured as Rich, mond fulls to the Union soldiers, ending the war. They aie brought to a temporary field hospital and laid side by side. The women of the vicinity have tendered their services as nurses and them is Mrs. Adams.
