Lyon possibly didn't throw a fast one All after, noon. It would have been foollah for him to have dona ao. The Beee got one rud out of tha game and tha Angela got four. On July 14 when the Angela were here on their previous Visit, Mr. Lyon also pitched a game. The game yesterday was almost a duplicate of that former one. Tha Bees got only four hits off Ueorge on that occasion and the score was J to 1. From this it may be figured that If Lyons pitches two games a year against Balt Lake here. In six or seven ears the Bees will be able to boost their total number of hits to a respectable . . r figure. Walter Lever ens also was In trim yes terday, but the Angela batted with, more success than the Bees. The Angels should have had a 2 to 1 ictor, since two of the tallies the Angela collected . were due to errors. , Opportunity la Lost. The Bees had an excellent opportunity to win the game In the third inning, when they twice filled the bases. They got only one out of it and saw the aide- retired wtth three runners mardoned. The locals made a bit of a stand in the ninth, .when ther worked a runner around to third, but a double play knocked 'em dead. The game was fast, snappy and full of good baaeball playing. Except for the sixth Inning, when LeverenxS support failed, both, aides played excellent ball. The spectacular play of the day was made by Cravath in the seventh Inning, when he took a line fly. from Btata and doubled a runner off first. Tht playing of Bert Nlehoff at third base was a distinct feature. Nlehoff cut off at least three base hits, which, had him, most likely they gone through would have been doublea The Angels got a couple of hits In the second tuning, but good fielding kept them away from the plate. - R. , 1., IsEWPORT. Aug. 27. The stoical control of lchlya Kumagat won the Japanese tennis combination a place In the Davis cup challenge round when he defeated J. O. Anderson of Australasia on by scores 4f th court of th Casino her today. This victory, combined with the two singles matches won by Kumagae and Zenso Shtmldsu on Thuraday, gave them the margin of on matchneceeeary for a plac against th Vnlted Stades team at Forest Hills next month. 8hlmldsu is to meet J. B. Hawkes late today, but the result of this match will have no actual bearing on tha Anal result. The Antipodean only victory to date was won In yesterdays doubles. The match between Kumagae and Anderson this morning followed the trend of all the singles. Kumagae was steadiness personified, sacrificing both brilliancy and speed for ' control and direction In his returns. He drove th ball back continually to th tall Australasian, depending most of the time for an error by Anderson to give him a point. While th volleys were protracted, there were but few brilliant spots In th play, and these were mad possible almost entirely by Andersons efforts at passing and , smashing. For th most part, however, the playing was slow and deliberate, and the match required two hours and five minutes before a decision was reached. During th match Anderson piled up 137 errors, which tells th story of his " defeat. The point score and stroke analysis . 0, The day s best hitters: Alt. H. TB. P.C. O Connell, San Francisco...
