Ih OGDEN, June 24 Some of the leaders of the Democratic party who will' take an active part in the convention at San lYanthsco parsed through Ogden early this morning and this afternoon. Gerard, former ambassador to Germany; Attorney General A Mlu hell Palmer,' Senator William H King and Secretary of the Navy Danields and prominent Democrats at the head of various state delegations. Much Interest of the local Democrats centered in the brief visit of Mr. Bryan, who arrived from Montana this morning and left this afternoon for San Francisco. During the time he was in the city he visited S. S. Smith at the latter's home. While at the depot, Mr. Bryan met the from Montana, Colorado, delegations irg.ma, North Carolina and Nebraska. Former Governor W. A- headed the West Virginians. Governor MoCoikle was in conference with Mr. Brvan at the depot for some time. Others on the Way. Secretary of the Navv Josephua Daniels and George Creel passed through Ogden early this morning, according to John A. Livingstone of the Raleigh, N. C News, owned by Secretary Daniels, while he was in the city for a short time with the eastern delegations. Secretary Daniels expects to Inspect the naval training station at San Diego and other coast naval stations while on the coast. Mr. Creel Is going to the convention as a delegate. In a special train which passed through Ogden last night was James W. Gerard. Senator Pomerene.of Ohio, former Governor Judson Harmon of Ohio, and former Senator J. Hamilton Lewis of Illinois. T. J MagtnnlB, Democratic nominee for dtstrict attorney of Weber county and a former officer in the army with the ambassador's son, met Mr. Gerard at the depot and had a brief talk on the situation. Mr. Gerard said the possibilities of President Wilson running for a third term were slight. Herbert Pfahler, editor of the Charleston, W. Va.. Gazette, was In the city with He said the West Virginia delegation. some of the delegation were for Cox and some for McAdoo. J. "Ham Lewis was their choice for vice president, he said. He declared that Bryan is the man who controls the nomination of president for the Democratic party. Attorney General Palmer was with the first of the two special trains carrying which the delegations, Pennsylvania passed through Ogden at 7 o'clock this morning. The trains were in the local yards a few minutes for the changing of engines and crews. Queen Esther chapter No. 4, Order of the Eastern Star, entertained at a rose tea yesterday afternoon, from 3 until 5 o'clock, in the Masonic temp.e. The tea was the last one of the season and was largely attended by members of Queen Esther and Miriam chapters. A profusion of June roses were i.sed in the decorations of the parlors. The tea table had a cover of Irish point lace, with a large basket of red roses as a centerpiece. Smaller baskets, filled roses of various colors, were at each end. The laborers will begin work unloading the steel rails for the several miles of trackage which will be laid upon the arsenal grounds. There are thirty-fiv- e cars of rails to be unloaded. The trackage will total fortv miles at the arsenal for the handling of the tton material and supplies.
