Being outdoors for extended periods of time can provide the challenge of maintaining proper temperatures of camp foods. Keeping perishable food cold during both travel time and camping requires plan-runConsider these ideas. Store eggs, meat, poultry, fish and milk at temperatures under or close to 40 F. Microorganisms begin to grow in food as it warms. The warmer the food becomes, the faster the microbial growth. During extended cam pouts, it is especially important to keep food as cold as possible. g. Large blocks of ice take longer to melt than the same amount of ice in smaller containers. Ice can be made in clean, half gallon milk cartons, plastic buckets or partially k plastic bags. Be to leave sure expansion room when filling containers. Plastic soda pop bottles can also be used if they are only filled zip-loc- two-thir- full. Individual servings of juice in cartons can be frozen to help keep foods cool, then used later. Be cautious of loose ice. Ice left loose in the ice chest cools food rapidly, but can easily become contaminated from meat juices or hands reaching into the cooler. Ice can be safely used for drinks if it is kept in a container that is not in direct contact with food. Prepare as much food as you can before the trip. Preparing food at home will help alleviate problems with cleanup and at the For site. camping example, hamburger patties can be shaped at home and placed in plastic bags. If patties will be used the first day, they can be refrigerated. If they wont be used for two to three days, freeze them and let them thaw in the ice chest. This will provide additional cooling. Like the Trail Canyon Fire, this fire is in extremely L- - steep and rugged terrain, said Dave Engleman, the Fire Management Officer of the Bureau of Land Management. The fire was started by lightning and is currently burning on the north slope of Big Canyon in Douglas fir at an elevation of 8,000 feet. Terrain plays a big part in fire fighting tactics. When the terrain is too rough to put firefighters on the ground and no private land or resources are threatened, then the most alternative is to monitor the fires. This fire will be monitored daily by a reconnaissance plane. However, a J." -- should the fire grow and reach one of the predetermined locations in the surrounding vicinity. Tactics will be adjusted pending fire behavior, weather and terrain issues. Other tactical alternatives include an air attack operation and burnout operations. Ultimately, the terrain and weather will be added to the ice chest by wrapping it in a towel or blanket. Keep the ice chest shaded at the final determining factors on which alternative will be if needed. Firefighters also used to manage the fire. During the Trail Canyon fire in July of this year, fire fighters removed the fuel along key holding ridges. These ridges will be used to contain the Big Canyon Fire trees surrounding the structures at the Tavaputs Ranch. These efforts created a buffer around the structures and will Yeduce the impact of wildfire. RESIDENTIAL INCOME POTENTIAL... 3 bed, 2 bath Solano Vallejo townhome wgreat nightly rental history.
