The Division of information regarding wild bird surveillance, including a bird identification page and the online submission form, at can be found wildlife.utah.govwnv In addition to surveillance of dead birds for West Nile virus, the DWR has also begun its surveillance of live birds at various locations around the state. This activity was begun as soon as West Nile virus was detected in Utah during the 2004 season. The, UDWR and nually maintains Wildlife Resources encourages the public to participate in its Wild Bird Surveillance program. If you see an ill or dead bird in your area, please contact the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources office nearest to you. The class went over basic first aid treatment with Jennie Massie, EMT Instructor, Search and Rescue Training Officer, and CERT Instructor. They learned how to identify the difference between a first degree, second degree, and a third degree bums and how to treat each of them. In an event of a disaster Jenny Massie stressed the importance of keeping public health concerns in mind when dealing with sanitation, hygiene, and water purification. Moving injured victims correctly from a disaster with suspected back or neck injuries is critical says Kris Betts Medical EMS EMT. Kris had the students practice moving injured victims onto a backboard and strapping them down and preparing them for transportation. Each fall, winter, and spring Allen Memorial treats Moab visitors for hypothermia and frostbite. They also admit numerous people during the spring, summer and fall for heat exhaustion and heat stroke. CERT student learned how to recognize and treat these annual Moab occurrences.
