Recent resignations have created vacancies on two of the states five wildlife Re- gional Advisory Councils (RACs). RAC members represent one of six interest groups: sportsmen; agriculture; nonconsumptive wildlife; loca- public officials; lly-elected federal land agencies; and the public at large. Vacancies currently exist on the central and southeastern RACs. Bennett, chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcom- - mittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, and Related Agencies, was awarded the National Rural Water Association Friend of Rural Water award. The Senator was presented the award on Tuesday, May 26 at the Utah Rural Business Conference in grams all across the nation, assisting over 23,500 water and wastewater systems nationwide. He has been an advocate for funding the Water and Wastewater Circuit Rider programs for the 48 Rural Water Associations across the Nation, including Utah. To be considered for a vacancy, candidates must live in the region of the state they wish to represent. Potential candidates should contact an appropriate group they wish to represent and request to be nominated. For example, to fill a nonconsumptive vacancy, a person must contact a Utah nonconsumptive wild- Documents... members are considered volunteers and are eligible to be reimbursed for actual meeting attendance expenditures. Overnight travel is rarely required. Successful candidates will complete the terms of resigning members or serve full, r terms. For information about wildlife or conservation groups in your area, contact the nearest Division of Wildlife Resources office. All RAC nominees go through a standardized silting and interview process before being ranked and submitted to the executive director of the Department of Natural Resources. The executive director, in consultation with the director of the DWR, makes appointments from the top five candidates. RAC Nomination forms may also be obtained at any DWR office. Completed nomination or forms must be mailed directly to the Board RAC coordinator in the DWRs Salt Lake City office. Mailing information is found on the nomination form. The five RACs each hold about 10 meetings a year to listen to wildlife management proposals from the DWR and take grassroots public input about the proposals. Meetings generally last three to five hours in the evening, typi- four-yea- cally on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.
