Show Pros, amateurs team up for Commanders Cup 3rd place team scoring 117 by Senior Airman Russ Martin Hilltop Times staff Professional and amateur golfers teamed up together in the second annual Commanders Cup Golf Tournament Aug. 21 here. Cash prizes and gift certificates were given out for team performance as well as individual accomplishment. Teams consisted of five players - one professional and four amateur golfers. More than 80 participants competed endtie for first place, y ing in a three-wa- y tie for fourth place, a seven-wa- y tie for sixth place and numerous ties thereafter. Taking first place in the team scoring, Professional Jeff Jerman lead his team Pro Dwight McNew, Mo Goodrich, Jack Jones, Ron Pauling, Steve Wall, 4th place team scoring 118 ; Pro Ernie Schneiter, William Murray, Chris Russo, Tom Popp, Don Linnell Carrol Bobb, Greg Gilmore and Craig Omer tied up the top three positions in the amateur individual scoring bracket, each finishing with a 63 net score. Other amateur scores were: two-wa- consisting of Howard Crane, Greg Gilmore, Jeff Everts and A1 Hedrick, to victory with a final score of 112. Little Buddy Samantha Trammell said the club is fun from her perspective as well. I like to do projects with the big kids, she said. We do necklaces and beads and bracelets and paper projects and we make pretend cameras and we work on the computers and we play on the swings, monkey bars and climb the poles. The big kids help me get up on the pole, they help me swing, they help me do water games and they help me with projects. Rachel Greenwell, whos 12, said each child has a different favorite activity and shes enjoyed learning about them as individuals. I decided to participate because I like working with little children and I think its fun to see them learn new things, said Rachel. I try to help them have fun. And I like the program because I think it gives kids a chance to work with people and learn a lot about themselves and SPORTS BRIEFS Marathon deadline today Today is the registration deadline for the USAF Marathon at Wright-Patterso- n AFB, Ohio. The race will be Sept. 12 on the base. To register, call the marathon office at or visit the web site at afinarathon.wpafb.af.mil. Four runners from Hill AFB will be part of the 3,000 people testing their skills on the 26.2 mile course. Volksmarch planned Outdoor Recreation is sponsoring the Sept. 16 Global Volkssport on base. The course will be set up for 5K and 10K distances. Fly fishing classes set Outdoor Recreation is sponsoring fly fishing classes in September at the Log Cabin, Bldg. 804. Classes are held Wednesdays from 8 p.m. on Sept. 6, 13, 20 and 27. Two classes will be held at a local river to test your skills. The cost is $20 per person, and class size is limited to 15 people.
