Wilson Wing seeks to forge new relationships from upcoming Employer Appreciation Day HeadsUp and were also distributed through by CapL James R. Wilson unit first sergeants. Invitations were 419th FW Public Affairs Office The 4 1 9th Fighter Wing will host guests from throughout Utah and the surrounding area during its annual salute to employers on Sept. 9. Each year, the 419th FW dedicates a day solely for civilian employers of Reservists so they understand what their employee is doing when he or she is train- ing with the unit. The event, dubbed appropriately Employer Appreciation Day, will begin precisely at 7:30 a.m. This years agenda will include an overview of the wings mission, tours of the civilian workcenters, a perimeter defense exercise by security forces members and an orientation flight aboard a 5 aircraft. The bottom line is that this event is intended to foster relationships, said KC-I3- Col. Wayne Conroy, 419th FW vice commander. We want the employers to under- stand the nature of our business and this program does a great job of explaining our identity. I expect the 419th will make numerous new friends as a result of this orientation. Nomination forms for EAD were published in the June and July issues of mailed directly to employers in late July. Currently, more than 70 employers and Reservists have expressed interest in attending. - Reservists will not be allowed to accompany employers for the orientation flight due to regulations and space limitations. However, unit members are asked to join their employers for the continental breakfast and mission briefing in the wing headquarters building. The workcenter tours will vary depending on the group the employer is assigned. Although reasons for nominating employ- ers often vary, many 419th members use this opportunity to introduce the Reserve mission to civilian supervisors who previously possessed a limited exposure to the military. Sometimes bosses are left feeling like they dont have a vote in the amount of time we commit to the Reserve, said Senior Master Sgt. A1 Hepler, 4 1 9th FW maintenance squadron first sergeant. I nominated my employer because I felt she would be interested in knowing the wide range of missions supported by the 419th. Additionally, I wanted her to know my role in the unit and how I fit in to the overall mission. Like many of his peers. Sergeant Hepler also views EAD as a chance to highlight the diversity of Reservists who possess skills and experience in multiple backgrounds. Several of the members in the 419th are experts in areas that have no correlation to their civilian jobs, he added. I think most employers leave the 419th with a newfound respect for their workers because of their versatility and commitment to serving. At the same time, - its an excellent forum for them to address our leadership with questions or concerns they are have regarding the Reserve. Communicating training requirements has become more important as of late given the Guard and Reserves role under the Expeditionary Aerospace Force plan-- a fact not lost on the 4 19ths senior lead- ership. The increased reliance on Reserve components for national defense has made employer support issues more important than ever, said Colonel Conroy. Hopefully, we can continue to use this opportunity as a method of preventing employer problems that sometimes result when our members are conducting their Reserve training requirements. Shortage of vaccine results in policy change areas. by Airman Lara Gale 419th FW Public Affairs Office The shortage of Anthrax vaccine available to the Department of Defense means 419th members who havent received or are in the middle of receiving the cination are not going to be vaccinated unless a deployment makes it necessary. vac- The 419th medical squadron is no longer supplied with the vaccine, according to Col. Charles Joseph, Medical Squadron commander. All supplies of the vaccine were sent overseas, where it will be administered only to those in high-ris- k The change in the vaccination program shouldnt affect deployment schedules, according to Col. F. C. Williams, 419th Fighter Wing commander. Its not going to affect us because of the way theyre going to manage the shortage, he said. To best utilize remaining supplies, the Department of Defense ordered the vaccine be administered only to military members in South Korea and the Mideast-Persia- n Gulf region for longer than 30 days. Vaccinations will only be administered according to Colonel Williams. Airmen who receive orders making them eligible for the vaccination will be responsible for contacting their first sergeant for vaccination arrangements, he said. The immunization program will resume in units like the 419th as soon as the vaccine is readily available.
