Before the new regulation, which went into effect Nov. 1, 1999, Family Child Care providers had to live in housing. The new providers, located within a radius from the base, will be affiliated with the base program and subject to the same regulations and standards. Under the new program, there will be four levels of family child care licenses: provisional, standard, developmental and accredited. During the first three monthsj new providers will be given a provisional license to ensure they are able to comply with the Air Forces standards for family child care homes, Lane said. All the licensing levels ensure that the care provided will protect the childrens health and safety, she said. The developmental and accredited homes will offer more activities and experiences to prepare children for school and support their overall development. Provider lists will detail which category the home has achieved. Air Force-wid- e over 40 percent of the child care offered is in family child care homes with the remainder in child development centers and school age programs. At Hill AFB, 26 family child care homes are now licensed and care for more than 200 children daily. Information about the new program and the timeline for implementing it on this base is currently being provided to parents, currently licensed providers and individuals interested in becoming licensed or affiliated.
