Show Tax advisors needed While the year hasn't ended and taxes aren't due until April 17, military and retiree tax advisors are being sought now to help customers in the base Tax Center. The Legal Office will open the Center Jan. 24. Officials plan to operate the center in the Thornton Community Center, Bldg. 460, from six to 10 hours daily and on Saturday mornings by appointment. The free service will be available to all active duty personnel and their family members, as well as retirees and Reservists. "We rely heavily on military and retiree volunteers to help us provide this ser- vice," said Tax Center director BJ Caser-tan"We need individuals who are willing to devote at least 10 hours per week in the Center from January to April. Volunteers will act as Tax Advisor's for the Squadrons and provide assistance to customers. It is necessary that we get at least o. am mm one tax advisor for every 100 active-dutpersonnel." Tax advisors will learn basic tax information from the IRS through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. The three-da- y training will be held in 1279 on In addition, Jan. Bldg. Casertano will teach tax advisors the Tax Wise computer program the following week. "No tax or accounting background is necessary to be a tax advisor," Casertano said, "however, experience as a tax advisor in the past will significantly cut down the individual's training time. y flTITl I WE PAY YOUR NEXT PAYCHECK - ; TODAY!" "The success of the tax program depends entirely on our tax advisors. Last year the program helped over 3,000 personnel and saved them more than $169,000."
