Show The Tlmes-lndcpcnden- Thursday, Nov. 28, t, Fire contained at Moab restaurant All units of the Moab Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire call at JR's Restaurant, on South Highway 163 at 5:45 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22, with the first unit arriving about three minutes after the call. There was heavy smoke at the north end of the building, a section formerly occupied by Chuck's Place, and vacant at the time of the fire. According to fire department spokesman Frank Mendonca, the smoke made it difficult to locate the source of the fire, but once located, it was contained almost instantly. The fire started in an unoccupied apartment below the bar. At some point, a gas fired wall mounted heater started up and overheated some wooden members of the wall above. It burned through the apartment ceiling, which was under an upstairs bathroom. Both toilet and sink fell through the floor, which broke water lines and helped to stop the spread of the fire. Damage was limited to the north section of the building, and both bar and apartment had major damage. There was minor smoke damage in JR's restaurant and the adjacent gift shop. The fire was reported by someone at Circle K, across the road. Vanity plates for gifting to find a unique Struggling holi- ing a popular gift idea.
