DRILL TEAM GOES TO SALT LAKE CITY by Cindy Stocks The drill team had been practicing very hard for the drill competition which was held January 18 and 19 in the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City. The Devilettes placed third in dance, and novelty, and they brought in a second place in prop, which is using creative ideas and putting them together using different objects as visual aids to the drill. This is the second time the drill team has competed. The first time they took second in the novelty category. The team has worked hard on their costumes and their music, and overall they did very well. The Barb Hill, sophomore, said, Salt Palace was big! There were a lot of skilled dancers there that made me feel about an inch high. After watching some of the girls perform, I feel like I learned some ways I could improve myself while performing. used to describe the tournament held in Juab last Friday, not only because of the competition, but also because of the late start of the tournament which caused a speedy pace. words eight-tea- m Moab was represented by Philip Stocks at 98 lbs., Jason Trimble at 105, Mario Richardson at 112, Larry Croasmun at 119, Kevin Sheets at 126, Zack Peck at 132, Kyle Negley at 138, Shad Schmidt at 145, Mark Richeson at 155, Billy Bob Shupe at 167, and James Sanborn at 185. Larry Croasmun with fourth place, and Kyle Negley with second place. Overall the team feels that the reason for not winning has to do with not being in the shape that wrestling demands which could be caused by slacking off in practice. Mark Richeson and Shad Schmidt feel that it is really not caused by too much slacking off, but by not working hard enough on certain drills. The next match will be January 24 at San Juan. 40ERS WINBIG! by Doug Davis and Paul Tangren San Francisco gave the Dolphins a lesson in how to play ball! The game was supposed to be one of the best ever, but it didnt turn out that way. The first quarter was a good one but then the 49ers went to work and the Dolphins looked helpless. Many students had good opinions about the game. Mark Walker said, The game was lousy, but the score was great! Mitch Johnson said, I knew San Francisco would win because they both have a good offense but San Francisco has the best defense. Danny Lambeth The game was terrible but said, the results were good. Monty Guerrero said, I thought it was bad because Miami lost and worst of all I lost a case of beer! No matter what your opinion was, no matter how much money you lost, the San Francisco 49ers will always be the champs of Super Bowl XIX. And by the way there is always next year. I learned more from the professors and other students than I could have learned in all my years in high school. The college students were a great help. The Hardware Ranch still exists and it is a very popular area for winter visitors since the Division of Wildlife offers free horse drawn sleigh rides. I experienced and learned more in four days, than I ever thought possible. Lisa was the only student from our school that tried out for a scholarship. She had to do two pieces of material, and she did hers on acting and contrasting, and had to sing one song. Some of the workshops covered playwriting, shakesperean acting, art of clowning, looking good on film, and working behind the scenes.
