Show The Times-lndependen- Thursday, Jan. 24, 1985 t, School Board adopted goals for the new year at recent meeting The Grand County Board of Education held its first regular meeting of 1985 on Jan. 16, Michael unanimously Arehart and Nate Knight board president and respectively, for the next two years. The major action of the meeting was the adoption by the board of a three-pag- e statement of District Goals and Priorities, prepared and presented by Superintendent Bill B. Meador. The first and longest section of the paper addresses instruction and curriculum, with major emphasis on Outcome Based Education (OBE) programs. The first priority is to continue to refine OBE . programs, which were implemented at the beginschool year. ning of the 1984-8Other priorities following include extending OBE in math and language arts through the tenth grade, and implementing it in these same subjects in grades four and five. Summer school Next priority is to plan and conduct a summer school session for eighth grade students who dont complete Outcome Based Education objectives during the regular school year. The remaining goals and priorities in instruction and curriculum follow. To conduct (beginning in February, 1985) and priorities. The first priority is to review the current program with teachers, parents and board members in an attempt to improve the entire program, then to determine if the career ladder program can be written to really improve the teaching profession and instructional conditions. This district will then review materials, suggestions and state guides regarding implementation of education in the computer elementary schools. A plan to meet the 1988 elementary requirements will be port. Examples here include choral dress standards, drill team concerns, development of concepts regarding band, etc. extra-curricul- League Alignment The district will continue to pursue a league alignment with Colorado schools in order to insure organized and recognized participation. The district will also attempt to develop schedules which reduce time out of school, additional expense and time demands on students, and will review facilities and equipment needed to conduct ar ic will review needs and establish a equipment financial plan which supports the equipment required to establish and conduct a scope and sequence well-organiz- computer curriculum beginning a designated level in the elementary schools through the twelfth grade. To design and implement a new evaluation instrument prepared in cooperation with administrators, Grand Education Association representatives and board members. The second section of the paper is entitled financial planning, and includes as the top priority the effort to refine the current district computer accounting program. The board and district next intend to maintain contact with the State Office of Education in a?.; effort to obtain additional funds from grant programs or other sources for which it may qualify. Possible levy election At some point in the near future, they plan to discuss in detail the option or possibilities of conducting a mill levy election in order to increase revenue for school maintenance and operation. The third goal under financial planning is to work through the proper channels to establish a legislative review of the current school finance formula. Under the general heading of capital outlay, the first priority is that remodeling and ' major maintenance should be kept at a minimum, and that needs regarding new furnaces or major repair of heating systems be reviewed. The board adand ministration intend to review, and if needed, write a new job description for the supervisor of buildings and grounds. Since the current supervisor, Marvin Clever, plans to retire June 30, 1985, the district plans to advertise and employ a new supervisor on or before April 1, 1985. The board adopted as a goal that most of the expenditures of the capital outlay fund be devoted to the purchase, upgrading and repair of instructional equipment.
