Show The C2 Times-Independen- Thursday, March 10, 1983 t, J PUBLIC NOTICES PUBLIC NOTICES Sec. antes Watt to keynote AY BECAUSE THE PEOPLE MUST KNOW. BECAUSE THE PEOPLE MUST KNOW. Lake Powell's 20th birthday , As birthday parties go, the one scheduled May 19 at the Arizona Utah border will be grander than John Wesley Powell could have imagined. But then, the lake occupying canyons mapped by the Civil War veteran is more spectacular than Powell or his contemporaries could visualize 186 miles long with 1,960 miles of shoreline. Keynote anniversary luncheon speaker at Wahweap Lodge & Marina near Page, Arizona, will be James Watt, Secretary of the Interior. Like any party for a popular friends will many cities of the gateway participate Page and Kanab, National Park Service, Bureau of Reclamation and Dell E. Webb Recreational Properties, which operates Lake Powells five marinas. May 19 festivities will begin with christening of new tour boats at the Arizona-Uta- h state line, one each by Arizona Governor Bruce Babbitt and Utah Governor Scott Matheson. Other officials will participate in cereg luncheon and monies. It was the spring of 1963 that the diversion tunnels closed on Glen Canyon Dam and Colorado River water began backing into the 96 one-arme- d ribbon-cuttin- red-roc- k which canyons provide Lake Powell its distinct character. Long before the lake filled to capacity in June, 1980, it possessed e a appeal to boaters, fishermen, photographers, in general. hikers and nature-loveLake Powell means many things to many people, says Dave Johnson, president of Del E. Webb Recreational Properties. It also is an unqualified success, economicaland an ly and sociologically, excellent example of cooperation between government and private enterprise. Lake Powell visitation increased in 1982 to 8B64,012 people, while total attendance at 39 other attractions in the same National Park Service region declined. The lakes soaring popularity convinced Webb to launch an $8 million expansion of Wahweap Lodge & Marina, completion of which will be observed at the May year-aroun- world-wid- d, feet to Corner No. 1 and place 1500.00 feet to Corner No. 4, R- .24E., S.L.M., thence South of beginning; Audrey No. 12, thence South 8746 West 052 West 1499.50 feet to Corbeginning at Corner No. 1, from 600.00 feet to Corner No. 1 and ner No. 2 of said lode, thence which the corner of Sections place of beginning; and Sinbad South 848 East 599.50 feet to 21, 22, 27, and 28 T.29S., No. 6, to the extent said claim Corner No. 3 of said lode, thenR.24E., S.L.M., bears' South does not conflict with the ce North 052 East 1499.50 feet 21849 East, 1317.94 feet, .Audrey No. 21 ..lode claim, to Corner No. 4 of said lode, thence South 1247 West, beginning at Corner No. 1, from thence North 848 West 599.50 1499.50 feet to Corner No. 2, which the corner for Sections feet to Corner No. 1 and place thence .North 858 West, 20 and 21, T.29S., R.24E., S.L.M. of beginning; SUSAN JEAN No. 600.00 feet to Corner No. 3, bears North 894900 West 10, beginning at Corner No. 1 of East 1209.00 feet, thence South said lode claim, from which the thence North 1247 1499.50 feet to Corner No. 4, 011 West 1499.50 feet to Corsection corner of Sections 21, thence South 858 East, 600.00 ner No. 2, thence South 8949 22, 27 and 28, T.29S., R.24E., feet to Corner No. 1 and place East 599.50 feet to Corner No. S.- L.M. , bears South 8960 of beginning; Audrey No. 15, 3, thence North 011 East West 1190.65 feet, thence beginning at Corner No. 1, from 1499.50 feet to Corner No. 4, South 052 West 1499.50 feet Corner thence North 8949 West to Corner No. 2 of said lode, which the of Sections 20 and 21, T.29S., 599.50 feet to Corner No. 1 and thence South 8220 West R.24E., S.L.M. bears North place of beginning.
