But Task Force Lt. Stan Eggen said even "more importantly, (they) discovered stolen checks and identification taken from at least 100 victims in Utah and Salt Lake counties. "We want to make the general public aware that the new trend among drug dealers is to obtain checks from purses left in automobiles, home burglaries and even checks discarded in dumpsters," Eggen said Wednesday. The police lieutenant said one of the suspects arrested Friday and Saturday had taken a cut up, discarded credit card and glued in back together on a backing. Eggen warned people must cut cards in such a way they can not be reconstructed so eas- iiy. According to Eggen, criminals are going through garbage cans to find discarded checkbooks and breaking into houses and cars with the specific intent of stealing checkbooks to use in forgery crimes. "Offenders then make identifications to match the stolen checks and pass these to merchants all along the Wasatch Front," Eggen said. Equipment to produce drivers licenses and other forms of identification were also confiscated in the raid at Quality Inn. "The quaUty of the identification is very good Eggen said. At the Howard Johnsons police also recovered a pickup truck valued at $30,000, that earlier had been stolen in Orem. Two suspects were arrested. Police identified the pair as Tina Coble, 24, and Keith ccinot ctrcot clocuro Parsons, 23. Both said they were from Utah County. At Quality Inn Steven Schultz,. 35., and Karen Ann Snyder, 45 both of Salt Lake City, were arrested. The four suspects appeared in 4th District Court Monday for bail hearings.
