The appointment of Bill Wagner as managing director of operations for the Salt Lake Organizing Committee was announced Thursday. SLOC also announced the hiring of Marv Smalley as the Games' deputy director of security. Wagner has more than 20 years experience in operations and project management with Bechtel Corp., which was hired by SLOC as a consultant in crafting the committee's budget. Wagner, who headed the consulting project, will remain under contract with Bechtel during his Olympic duties. He will oversee the committee's transition from planning to operating venues for the Olympics and Paralympics.
