' 7 POUndS Umif 2 Wasatch County to ask for grant to purchase recycling equipment By SONNI SCHWINN Herald Correspondent HEBER CITY - Wasatch County will ask for grant money to purchase public works equipment for recycling trash, and Heber City hopes to qualify for a grant to re-- place a sewer line on the north side of the city. ' This year, $900,000 in Commu- -' nity Development Block Grants, provided by the federal Depart- -' ment of Housing and Urban Devel-- ; dpment, will be divided among the cities and counties in the Moun- tainlands Association of Govern-nient- s. ' ' The communities apply for grants for projects that will be prioritized according to a rating system that takes into account how they will open up new jobs or oth erwise enhance the economy of the community, improve the health and welfare of the general population of the applicant, or benefit the elderly, poor, or handicapped. The county commissioners are optimistic about getting about $100,000, to which the county would add $14,000, in order to spend $80,000 for a chipper to grind up trees and shrubs, $32,000 for a used trailer for hauling trash 0 to the Duchesne landfill, and for a used compactor to smash recyclables. He said the trailer will save money, too, because the county presently has only one trailer, which usually goes to Duchesne full, only half to twice a week, because it has to be emptied to make room for the next $2,-50- three-quarte- BYU college to host . gineering The College of Enand Technology at Brigham Young University will host the first-ev"Engineering PROVO er Days at the Mall" in the University Mall Nov. 6 and 7.
