Record lows for the date were set in Augusta, Ga. , where it was 30 degrees; Daytona Beach, Fla., 43; Raleigh, N.C., 28; and Richmond, Va., 26. Several other cities tied their record lows. By 2 p.m. EST in Virginia, 1 1 inches of snow covered the ground near Woodlawn, 7 inches at Christiansburg, 5 inches at Pulaski and Radford, and 4 inches x . at New Castle. Four inches fell at Beckley and Biuefield, W.Va.,3 inches at Charleston, W.Va., and 1 inch at Erie, Pa., and Huntington, W.Va.. It was sunny and warm in'the , northern Plains and Rockies. Record highs were set in Rapid City, S.D., where it was 79 degrees; Rawlins, Wyo., 68; p.m. EST, rain and stretched from the central Atlantic states across the central Appalachians into the upper Ohio Valley.
