The Pillsbury Doughboy "popped" out 25 years ago this year and tops the popularity charts today in America. Classic cookbook series celebrates 25th birthday dishes and sandwiches; breads, It was 25 years ago that a famous personality "popped" out of a tube of ready-to-bak- e dough and into our hearts. In honor of his birthday, the October issue of Classic Cookbooks by Pillsbury will feature "Poppin' Fresh Recipes" and celebrate the Doughboy's favorites. This festive cookbook features 85 recipes that capture the spirikt of fun and good cooking that have characterized the Doughboy's d advertenure as a tising character. Many of the recipes appeared with the Doughboy's "endorsement" in advertising or on labels of Pillsbury food packages. They continue to be consumer favorites, as evidenced by irequent requests consum-prjihon- e via Pillsbury's line e While the cookbook includes consumer favorites from throughout the Doughboy's 25 years as an advertising spokesperson, the recipes have been updated to reflect today's ingredients, cooking habits and techniques. The collection includes chapters on snacks and appetizers; main sweet rolls and coffee cakes; desserts; and cookies and bars. In addition to favorite recipes, the cookbook also features a new dessert created especially for this issue the Doughboy's 25th birthday cake. Featured on the cover, the Funfetti Jam Cake stars with Pillsbury cake mix and frosting and adds a tasty jam filling between the layers. Pillsbury Plus Funfetti Cake Mix carton dairy sour cream 1 cup water 3 egg whites cup seedless raspberry jam 1 can Pillsbury Pink Vanilla Funfetti Frosting round cake Heat oven to 350. Grease and flour two 8- - or pans. In large bowl, combine cake mix, sour cream, water and egg whites at low speed until moistened; beat 2 minutes at high speed. Stir in candy bits by hand. Pour batter evenly into greased and floured pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 15 minutes; remove from pans. Cool completely. Slice each cooled cake into 2 layers. Place 1 layer, cut side up, on serving plate; spread with 3 cup jam. Top with second layer; spread with '3 cup frosting. Place third layer on frosting; spread with remaining jam. Top with remaining layer. Frost sides and top of cake with frosting.
