Saddam's defiant speech, broadcast on national Iraqi television and read by an unidentified announcer, upset a market that was beginning to find its equilibrium. mulIn reference to the U.S.-le- d tinational military presence in nearby Saudi Arabia, Saddam called on all Arabs to "condemn the invaders and collaborators." Also pressuring stocks was a negative reaction in the credit markets to the Labor Department's report showing wholesale prices edged down 0.1 percent in July. nfo)Efo) aiiftift frfoMte (m 304 SouthCo SwBeU .. 26- 4- 7- 42 18 27 47 V . The market had been moving lower as traders unloaded equities to hedge against any surprise developments overseas this weekend, but prices turned sharply downward following the statement from Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. The Dow Jones average of 30 industrial stocks fell 27.47 points to 2,731.44 at midday.
