December 19. 2007 Utah & The West TODAY OTY HERALD r s pc c that time of the year to add moisture to air inside your home. The heaters have cranked up and drying out the air. Your sinuses, skin, etc. have been taking a beating. Did you know that unless you humidify your home in the winter, the relative humidity can drop to levels that are drier than the Sahara Desert? In very cold states that straddle the U.S. and Canada border, inside relative humidities have been know to drop well below 10 percent. Even here in Utah, our furnaces and heaters evaporate a lot of the moisture that may be in our homes. The ideal winter relative humidity inside our homes should be between 30 and 50 percent. It is a good idea to have some sort of humidifier in your home, whether it is hooked to your furnace system or just sits on your counter, putting out moisture. Some people even have humidifiers scattered throughout their homes. If you have a cougher sore throat, a humidifier can do wonders! It's Weather history In 1984, Enterprise had 17 inches of snow. In 1990, Duck Creek had 32 inches of snow, Brighton 27 inches, Park City 20 inches, Heasantfcrove 14 inches and Springville 12jnpnes. In 1999, a gust of wind to 97 mph was clocked on Mt. Baldy at Aha ski resort. - M M TOM 'Sli 1 Dec. 19: National forecast Snow showers will linger from across the in- terior of the West today.
