Photographer Lucia Woods has captured sites and settings from Cather's life and from her works. She will be honored at a reception Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Wilkinson Center Gallery. The reception and exhibit are also open to the public. Cather loved the land and the outdoors, and she also passionately loved music. Her interest in music and her love of music are reflected in her writing. A recital Thursday at 7:30 p.m. directed by Ronald Staheli of the BYU Music De- partment will highlight music prominent in Cather's fiction. The program will include such songs as Liszt's "Die Lorelei" and Mendelssohn's "If With All Your Hearts" from "Elijah." Elouise Bell of the BYU English Department will narrate a script prepared by John Murphy, also of the English Department and another devoted Cather scholar. The Third National Cather Symposium moved from Nebraska this year to BYU. by BYU's Center for f amily ana Community History, the Utah Endowment for the Humanitites and the BYU Students' Association, the conference will feature lectures by Arnold and Murphy and a number of guests including James Woodress, author of the most recent and acclaimed biography of Cather, Susan J. well-kno- Cherny, Wilbur Jacobs and -- !"wVX Twilights. Those d may read the novel In an attempt to reach the local community, the Willa Cather symposium organizers hope local Cather enthusiasts will attend the events on campus. They have also planned discussion groups in libraries and schools to bring the scholars into the community with less formal presentations.
