Htnthaw , liability and update the volunteer tire department, city ott rials agreed to let bids on new clothing and a study to see it the building is structurally sound Mayor Jay Merrill Hallam told the city council Wednesday night that clothing currently used by the iue department does not meet safety codts The current clothing is ten years old and didn't meet code when originally purchased." Hallam told the council. "The city has a great liability here with the men putting their lives on the line to tight tires." he continued. Hallam told the council when originally purchased, the current coats were "sold to the city as part ot a good deal." The city got the coats tor $Hu less because they did not meet newly required safety standards. "I feel that we must take steps to replace the clothing and reduce city liability. "With the councils permission we will ask for bids on the clothing." Hallam also asked the council to okay a study of the fire station on Main Street to see if the building is structurally sound. Hallam said the fire station needed a new roof and other major repairs. "I feel a study will tell us if the building is worth remodeling, what it would cost or if we should build a new structure. They city will also look at the ambulances building as part of the study. In other council business: The council approved $38,000 payment to Nelson Brothers Construction Company on phase three of the Waste Water Treatment Plant. The entire project, which is the largest one in Spanish Fork history, will be completed by May.
