Payson Community theatre has established itself as a trendsetter with its winter plays that balance out their extravagant summer musicals. Last year the theatre produced Beth Henley's successful ""Crimes Of Trie Heart." which took eight awards at the Michael Weatherred recent Utah Valley Theatre Guild Awards Night, including Outstanding Production, Director, Actress, and several technical awards as well. Payson Community Theatre is the first theater in the state of Utah to produce this hilarious Simon comedy, although two other theatres are doing the show this spring, one in Salt Lake and one in Cedar City. A veteran cast has been chosen to perform the autobiographical play which deals directly with adolescense. Simon's post-puber- Chris H. Brower, drama director at Timpview High School, has been cast as the father in the play. Chris brings to the stage numerous comedic roles to his credit, and has delighted previous audiences as Captain Hook in ""Peter Pan." and Edward Ruth-ledg- e " "" - y six-wee- Series they will share their talents on clarinet, oboe, horn, bassoon, trumpet, violin and piano performing works by Mozart, Vivaldi and Prokofieff. This is not the case at all. "Brighton Beach Memori" has enough comedy that you know it is Simon, and it deals with real, sometimes heart breaking, situations and issues. Admission is free. "These performances are always spontaneous because much oi what is played isn't written down." says Ron Brough, a member oi the ensemble. "How we've rehearsed isn't necessarily going to be the same music the audience will hear. During solos particularly, the audience can watch the artist over his shoulder as he composes new music in front of them." Brough will be featured on drums and percussion. Other members will include Ray Smith on reeds, Steve Call on keyboards and low brass, and Jeff Campbell on bass.
