(UPIi No sooner had parents gotten "New Math" off their backs than along came the school computer and a generation of software whiz kids who expect mom and dad to help solve their homework. David Moursund. a University of Oregon professor in computer science and education, sympathizes with parents who are intimidated by the new emphasis on computers in schools. He's written a "Parent's Guide to Computers in Education" that helps them learn about the tech nology and uses of computers and overcome a sense of alienation. "The general philosophy is that parents really want their kids to get a good education," said Moursund, who is also president of the International Council for Computers in Education. "At the same time, parents are not convinced our education system is working well. Attempts to make major changes in education generally have not been overly successful."
