Utah, 8, 1984 9 Freedom Festival in Provo Outlines Program Events This year's Freedom Festival theme, "AmericaFest: A Salute to America," will be reflected in many of the events held during the 1984 America's FreedomFestival at Provo. Choosing Theme said Steven R. Shallanberger, General Events Chairman for this year's Festival. I Jaynann Payne, Freedom Awards Chairman, suggests that anyone interested in nominating someone for one of several prestigious awards, or in purchasing tickets to the luncheon, contact the Provo Area Chamber of Commerce at Beauty Pageant The Miss Provo Scholarship Pageant will be June 30 at Timpview High School. "We have been extremely pleased with the caliber of girls we have had to represent the city of Provo," noted Ann Seamons, event chairman. "We have had. several girls go on to represent us as Miss Utah." The deadline for entries for the scholarship pageant is May 15. Interested contestants can pick up applications at the Provo Area Chamber of Commerce, located at 10 East 300 North. Freedom Fair way." One of the Freedom Festival events, the Panorama, used the general theme to develop a special theme of its own. Bill Critchfield, Panorama Chairman noted that the theme chosen for the Festival allowed Osmond Productions (the company producing the Panorama) to use much of its creative energies in coming up with some "fun" things for the audience. "The Olympic Games is an event in which all American's have a great deal of pride," noted Critchfield. "The chance to 'show off our country to the rest of the world through this great competition doesn't come around very often." "AmericaFest: A Salute to the Olympics" was chosen as the theme for the Panorama to promote the spirit of patriotism which surrounds this year's improvements have been 224-116- Freedom Run This year's Freedom Run will actually be two different races. Patrick Shane, event chairman explained that there will be both a 5.000 and a 10,000 meter run July 3. before the Grand Parade. There is a $6 registration fee. Freedom Speech Contest Utah County high school students are eligible to compete in this year's Freedom Speech Contest. Picnic In Park festival Closing the week-lon- g is the Picnic in the Park & Fireworks Concert. This event, headed by Gene Manning, made its debut two years ago, and has continued to grow in popularity. The activity will in Merrill Frost, explained that more complete information has already been given to area high schools. The winner of this event will deliver his or her speech at the Patriotic Service on Julv 1. Craig Call, Freedom Fair Chairman, explained that the fair will again be held in downtown Provo on June 30, July 2, 3, and 4. Arts, crafts, and foods will be on display and for sale. Those interested in obtaining a booth for the downtown fair to sell arts, crafts, or foods should contact Pam Wudel at 374-507- FpFOlEOKG' Downtown Carnival The Downton Carnival will be held in Provo concurrently with the Freedom Fair according to Bill Stacey, event chairman. Last year thousands of youngsters participated, and at least as many are expected this year. Concert Series The Festival's first event will be the Concert Series to be held in the Provo Tabernacle June 27, 28, 29 and 30. Each evening will feature a different type of entertainment including: a chorus showcase, barbershop quartets, children's groups and the Provo Municipal Band.
