Holmberg, bureau supervisor. "The Program Chairman's Handy Helper," a free booklet prepared by the bureau, lists hundreds of topics available to program planners. "In addition to informative and entertaining talks, many of our people use visual aids, demonstrations or other methods to make their presentations more interesting," Holmberg says. "For example, Dr. Frederick Buchanan doesn't just talk about his native Scotland. He dresses in Scottish kilts and plays the bagpipe as well. "And Bill Barber, technical director at the Pioneer Memorial Theatre, is always a great hit when he gives theatrical makeup demonstrations for groups of young dramatists " Last year University speakers made over 250 appearances before professional, civic, business, service, educational and church-relate- d groups throughout Utah and "the demand seems to increase every year," Holmberg reports. Many of the speakers are available at no cost to organizations but honorariums and travel costs may be required in some cases. "We appreciate getting requests well in advance of the event," Holmberg says. "It's difficult to schedule busy people who are in great demand unless we have adequate notice." She also arranges tours of the campus and University facilities for organizations and schools. Holmberg may be contacted at the Speakers and Tours Bureau. 308 Park Building, University of Utah, Salt Lake City 84112. Unfortunately, these misconceptions cause taxpayers needless apprehension and worry. The IRS is a large agency, and the tax law is coma combination which might baffle the plex average person. The following, hopefully, may serve to dispel some of the common misconceptions: Using the peel-of- f address label will trigger an audit. The coding on the label actually just speeds up processing. It helps in identifying taxpayers and the kind of forms contained in the tax package they receive; it is not an audit indicator. Once audited, always audited. IRS makes a special effort NOT to keep auditing the same people over and over. In fact, IRS has a special program called the Repetitive Audit Procedure, the purpose of which is to see to it that no taxpayer is audited two years in a row on the same issue when there was no change the previous year. When IRS prepares a return, the tax is always higher. If facts and figures remain the same, the correct tax will be identical, no mater who prepares the return. IRS won't allow some deductions to go on a return, but somebody else would. IRS Taxpayer Service personnel will give taxpayers the benefit of all allowable deductions made known to them by the taxpayer. The adjustment is also automatic, increasing or decreasing taxes and refunds as appropriate. A mistake on its own does not generate an aydit. Tax on a "long" form is not the same as tax on the "short" form. Because of certain situations, some taxpayers must use the 1040 Form, often called the "long" form. However, the tax tables for both Form 1040 and Form 1040A are the same. Taxpayers would not pay more tax simply because they chose to use one form over another. IRS agents and revenue officers work on commission. IRS employees, like other government amount of employees, work on a salaried basis. The in no way money they "collect" or don't "collect" influences the amount of their oaychecks. more Anyone who is audited will end up owing tax. The outcome of an audit is one of three posan adsibilities: an additional tax assessment, ' case.
