Show Page Provo, Utah. Friday. October HERALD, THE 13. 1978 Mono Board Votes Restrictions On Water Hookups Outside City By MARILYN KFYTE Town Board members voted MONA unanimously to discontinue approving any water hookups beyond the city limits to future applicants in action taken in their regular monthly meeting. A lengthy review of available water supply versus the present growth rate within existing boundaries contributed tc this decision It was noted by that a check with Company indicated nearing the point of owned by Mayor Everd Squire the Mona Irrigation that culinary use was diminishing the water Irrigation Company stockholders. Board members had hoped that the recent purchase of two springs which were included into the towns water supply this summer, would give additional leeway for growth This, however, has not been the case Marc Vest, board member, said that a great many home owners have apparently-useadditional culinary water to water gardens and had gone into the penalized area of water charges. This was felt to be a contributing factor to the water usage being high during the past summer. Another factor contributing to this decision was that maintenance of lines beyond Local city limits caused an additional dram on finances Mayor Squire also cited the Utah Constitution. Article XL, which says towns "may not provide w ater outside when residents have no water." The board agreed that this point had been reached if any further services were given beyond city limits. Mayor Squire said this would not preclude further annexation of land to the town proper for as irrigated lands diminished irrigation water shares could be transferred to the culinary' w ater supply since it is a joint stream. The Board also discussed outstanding water bills and noted that collection must be made at this time of all amounts exceeding $50, which constituted a years service fee The town constable will be requested to contact those in arrears and report to the board It was a general consensus of opinion that this area would receive closer control in the coming year. While on the subject of water problems the board approved the additional charge of $50 to home builders who used a one inch pipe hookup to their homes. The usually approved size has been three quarter inch. Obituaries WU"" Ifa ' g j B. Board members voted to give this matter further study but felt that if the cost was not prohibitive the line should be constructed since it is needed for better water pressure in the area it would serve as well as future growth. Board members felt that whenever possible old small lines should be replaced with 6 inch lines for better service to the town and for lower fire rates to homeowners.
