Show TPafell-- -' THE ra3lALD,''pKWo; tjtah, ' HodaK lumber 12, 1983 Ask Dick How Did Jane Wyman Come Up With Name? By DICK KLEINER DEAR DICK: Can yoa tell me how Jane Wyman of "Falcon Crest" happened to choose Wyman for Iter last name when her real name was something else? R.R., Mobile, Ala. As so often happened in the days when Jane Wyman came along, the name change wasn't her idea. Nor had she any voice in the selection of her new name. She tdls me she came to Hollywood as Sarah Jane Fulks, but the studio decided they wanted to give her a simpler name. She was never told how they arrived at Jane Wyman but she's always liked it. DEAR DICK: On the "Grand - 01' Opry" show, do the square dancers really dance that fast or do they speed them up some how? I've danced for many years but, it looks like they dance faster on that show than I can. Mrs. E.G. Wausau, Wis. I checked with the people in Nashville, who tell me you don't see square dances on "Grand 01' Opry" because it is a radio show. The show's spokesperson suggests you may be thinking of "That Nashville Music,'-- ' which does have square dancers. Those dances are not speeded up. DEAR DICK: I Usten to "Hee Haw" all the time. I know Rev. Nutt passed away, but please, tell me who was the other member of the show who passed away. A.K., Rock Hills, S.C. That was the comedian who String Bean He was murdered a few years back. DEAR DICK: Please tell me if Tom Jones was ever married to Jill St. John. J.J.., St. Louis, called himself - Mo. No. DEAR DICK: I've watched "High Noon," with Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly, many times. Part of the film's enjoyment Is seeing the many actors who later went on to stardom, such as Harry Morgan and Lloyd Bridges. One actor's identity 4s still a mystery. Who played the hotel clerk? A.W., KUleen, Texas It's a mystery to me, too. And to Harry Morgan. I asked Morgan and he said he just doesn't remember the man's name. It's not in the credits, but it might be James Millican. Anybody know for sure? DEAR DICK: For years I have been searching for an answer to this question. "Trip the light fantastic" is originally from what Mrs. J.C., book, movie or play? Dauphin Island, Ala. This is not really a show biz question, but it is interesting anyhow. The earliest use of the quotation I can find is in John Milton's "L'Allegro." The poem contains the fine: "Come and trip it as you goson the light fantastic toe." It was written in the 1670s. DEAR DICK: Is Loretta Young R.C.B.,La-Grangliving? If so, where? e, Mo. She is living area. in the Los Angeles DEAR DICK: I would like to if every story on "That's Incredible" is true. Or do they make them up? R.C., Anderson, know Mo. Since the great quiz show scandals years ago, television programs do not take chances on making things up. There are enough nutty people around who will do ridiculous things just to get on TV. So why invent things? They may heighten the effects and enlarge on some of the stories, but basically it's all true. DEAR DICK: We have a discussion going. I say John Daly of "What's My Line?" is not living. My family insists he lives in South Africa. Who's correct? J.A., Columbus, Ohio You're all wrong, one way or the other. Daly is alive and living in New York. DEAR DICK: I have wondered about these two questions for quite a few years. Are Robert Horton and Robert Fuller related? Also, did they share the role of Flint McCullough on the old "Wagon Train" series at one time or another? T.L., Saginaw, Mich. Fuller and Horton are not related. Horton was the only person to play McCullough. When he left "Wagon Train" in 1962, Fuller replaced him, but as a character named Cooper Smith. DEAR DICK: On "Bewitched," Working Women's Panel Honors CBS Movie I was sure that Elizabeth Montgomery played both Samantha and her cousin, Serena. But in the credits it says Serena is played by Pandora S pocks. Why does it say that and who is right? V.S.P., Joptin, Mo. You are. Pandora Spocks is a phony name, just put in there to heighten the illusion that two different people played those roles. But it was Liz Montgomery all the time. DEAR DICK: We watch "Hawaii Five-O- " every chance we get and we wonder if James MacArthur, who played Danny, is related to Gen. Douglas MacArthur? Also what has happened to Jack Lord, who played McGarrett? B.D., Hemlock, Mich. james MacArthur is the son of the playwright, Charles MacA- who wrote "The Front Page." He is not related to the military Macs. Lord still lives in Hawaii, where he enjoys the good rthur, life while producing movies and TV shows.
