Businesses File For Flood Relief - SALT LAKE CITY (UPI) Six Salt Lake businesses that claim they suffered economic damages from spring flooding have filed a $250,000 lawsuit against Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County and the state of Utah. The lawsuit filed in Third District Court claims government officials were negligent in ripping up a street on North Temple to combat flooding. Salt Lake County earlier denied claims from the businesses on the ground the flooding was an act of God and crews did what they had to do to protect property in the county. County commissioners recently approved a $500,000 contract to repair the remaining damaged section of storm drain and street between Sixth and Eighth West on North Temple. But the businesses claim government has moved too slowly in starting the repairs, and they continue to lose almost $90,000 month because of decreased business. Plaintiffs in the suit include Hope of America Thrift Store. Scotty's Travel Motor Hotel, Ten Pin Lounge, Rancho 42 Lanes. Se Rancho Motor Hotel and Stockholm Restaurant. The businesses claim access to their jroperty was unlawfully denied by government officials who excavated a trench in the middle of the street to gain access to the damaged storm drain.
