The epic drama of the turbulent lives of four men and the beautiful woman who haunted them for two generations comes vividly to life in "John Steinbeck's East of adaptation of the clasEden," an eight-hou- r sic American saga, airing as an "ABC Novel for Television," on Channel 4 Saturday at 8 7 p.m., Sunday at 7 p.m. and Monday at p.m. motion 1955 theatrical Unlike the picture which covered only a small portion of the book, the television film explores the entire breadth of the Steinbeck novel. Starring in the story, which begins just after the Civil War and ends with the start of World War I. are Timothy Bottoms as Adam, Jane Seymour as CathyKate and Bruce as Charles. Lloyd Bridges as Samuel Hamilton, is the The first episode on Saturday takes place just after the civil War, when Adam and Charles are born to a boisterous, father and a soft, pious mother, who kills herself when she discovers she has been tainted by her husband's debauchery.
