The role of Martha in the play is portrayed by a black man. In sharp contrast to the Albee play, the students will perform what some consider "relevant" black are a skit dealing with the evolution of the black woman, and a short stage piece about the relationships between black men and women. Following the performance, Black Journal sought student opinion: "...Virginia Woolf does not relate to black people in any way," said one. "Black people need to be doing things about black people, for black people." Yet another noted that an production of the play could help blacks better understand whites. "Black people have to be aware of things that are happening to other people so that we don't end up being as biased and as lopsided as so many white people..." all-bla- all-bla- Brigham Young University begins its summer session of classwork this week and also another series of Devotional assemblies featuring General Authorities and other leaders of the UDS Church. Daytime Serial Actors Have Exacting Jobs Given an actor or actress who has made the grade in daytime television drama, a show business-wis- e person knows that the performer has these credentials: he or she is a quick study, meticulous in delivering lines exactly as rehearsed and in responding to cues, and trained to make necessary moves to precisely the right spot at the right time while seeming to react only to the dramatic force of the scene. It's a medium where every day is opening night, and it takes an actor's actor to master it. A blown line destroys cues not only for fellow actors but for camera switches, possibly for sound effects or music. Since a typical daytime series s of broadcasts five new drama each week, the time pressure is tremendous. Possibly no other dramatic medium is more demanding, and at the same time more rewarding in developing sound performing skills and good working habits. The caliber of people working in daytime television, and the ready acceptance they find elsewhere, attest to that. "The Guiding Light" June 30, 1972, will mark the 20th television anniversary for "The Guiding Light." The series had its premier on Channel 5 June 30, 1952, after 15 years as a radio favorite. It was one of the first radio daytime dramas to make the transition to television and it now celebrates a 35 years in monumental broadcasting. The series was created by Irna Phillips, who is also author of "As the World Turns" and "Love Is a Many Splendored Thing" on the network. "The Guiding Light" is broadcast Monday through Friday at 12:30 half-hour- ideas for the new Van Dyke series on a flight from Los Angeles to New York when he happened to read a ,sview of Miss Dussault's acting triumph in Pinaro's "Trelawny of the Wells" at New York's Shakespeare Festival. The critic called her "an American Maggie Smith." Reiner had followed Miss Dussault's musical-comed- y career but he made a point of seeing her in the classic Pinaro song, play. She had one but it was her flair for comedy and acting range whicii Reiner so much that he created a special character for her on the Van Dyke show. Sri off-sta- ed Miss Dussault's alter ego on the program is Carol Davis a slightly kooky girl who gave up her singing career when she married her manager (Marty Brill). She does sing occasionally on the series, but, essentially, it's a comedy acting role. In real life, Miss Dussault has no intention of giving up her singing career. But, for the moment, she's enjoying her first fling at television comedy. And the television audience is learning what theater-goer- s that have known a!l along Nancy Dussault is not only a sensational singer. She is also, as one critic put it, a "wickedly funny" actress.
