Tostao was in Houston for a series of examinations last week by Dr. Robert Moura. the surgeon who performed three operations of the soccer player's left eye to correct a detached retina. Moura first operated on Tostao's eye in October, 1969. The doctor placed a silicone "buckle" around the eye to hold the retina in position and Tostao was able to continue his career. However, Tostao was forced to undergo surgery again last February when an inflammation developed in the eye. The buckle was removed and another operation was necessary in April for a recurrence of the detachment. Moura warned Tostao the tissues holding the retina in position might not be strong enough to take any more bumps received during gamt contact. Tostao, whose real name is Eduardo Andrade, has played professionally since he was 16, when scouts were attracted to his style while playing in his native BaloHorrizonte. Tostao, who stands S feet, nine inches and weighs 155 pounds, said the high point of his career came in 1970 when he played in and his the World Cup relief help from Joel Gardner in the seventh, the Spaiiish Fork bised tam walked away with the victory.
