Lind, whose mother, Mrs Leslie A. Lind, still resides in Midvale, was selected as a NASA astronaut in 1966. He is currently undergoing 18 months of training in preparation for an upcoming space shuttle mission. Lind was born in Midvale on May 18, 1930. He attended Midvale Elementary School and is a graduate of Jordan High. He received a bachelor of science degree with high honors in Physics from the University of Utah in 1953 and a doctor of Philosophy degree in High Energy Nuclear Physics in 1964 from the University of He California, Berkley. study performed at the University of Alaska in post-doctor- al 1975-7- 6. He is married to the former Kathleen Maughan of Logan and has seven children. Lind's current assignment with NASA was described as membership in the astronauts office's operations missions development group, which is sponsible for re- developing payloads for the early space shuttle test missions. Prior to his selection as an astronaut, Lind worked for NASA at the Goddard Space Flight Center for two years as a space physicist. Lind is also a member of the American Geophysical Union, the American Association for Advancement of Science, and Phi Kappa Phi. He holds the rank of Commander in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He served four years on active duty with the Navy at San Diego and later aboard the carrier $400,000. Carpenter stated, "If we subsidize (these programs) with our budget, then it takes away from the children. If we were adequately funded, we could be more generous," he said. The Miss South Jordan Pageant scheduled for Mar. 26 was postponed pending a decision by the board. The changes would transfer 62 students from Copperview Elementary to Sandy Elementary who live south of 9000 South and west of State St.; transfer 62 from students Sandy Elementary to Copperview Elementary who live east of State SU north of 8415 South, and west , of the canal that extends through the subdivision; and draw the south boundary line between Copperview and Midvale Elementaries down the middle of Wasatch St. from State St. to the freeway. This would effect approximately 46 students living on the south side of Wasatch and those on Cornell and Adams Streets. Students now attending Midvale Elementary, from the boundary change area, will be given the choice of finishing out their elementary grades at Midvale or Copperview. Starting next year, all entering kindergarten students and new students moving into the boundary change area would attend Copperview Elementary. This issue two sections. s Chief Fetherolf finishes FBI training program Chief of Police Louis H. Fetherolf of the Midvale Police Department was one of 250 persons who graduated this month from the Federal Bureau of Investigation Academy in Quantico, Virginia. The graduation ceremonies concluded 11 weeks of management-level training. Fetherolf becomes only the second officer with the Midvale Police Department to graduate from the academy. Retired Chief of Police Louis Smith is the other graduate. Officers from 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands as well as eight foreign countries, five U.S. Military organizations and six Federal Civilian Organizations participated in the training. The eight foreign countries represented were Canada, Egypt, England, Federal Republic of Germany, Jamaica, Lebanon, Republic of China and Thailand. V OMt....i HI ; An 18 year old male, a reported escapee from the youth Development Center in Ogden, was placed under arrest by Midvale police officers Monday following a high speed chase that ended up in a West Jordan subdivision. The suspect was charged with felony, evading of a police officer and felony auto theft. A second suspect, described as a male juvenile, is still being sought in connection with the incident. The site, located at 10350 S. 2700 W. is located in a centrally populated region. The property, presently owned by Keith Powell, has been appraised at $20,000 an acre. The board has agreed to purchase the land for b4F to Midvale detective Sgt. Sherm Lloyd, Cpl. Brian Ridgeway first observed the vehicle, a 1983 Lincoln Town Car, at around 6:10 p.m. and noticed that it fit the description of a car reported stolen from a Murray auto dealership three days before. When Ridgeway attempted to stop the vehicle, it bolted and Ridgeway gave chase. With the assistance of other officers, the car was trapped in near 9000 S. and 1300 W.
