Jorge, a 17 year old foreign exchange student from Argentina and since January, has been living with the Wayne Margetts family of South Jordan. When he parts company with bis American second s family in July, the final no and last waves win, doubt, be punctuated with more than a few tears. Ifae Margetts are no strangers to the foreign exchange program. Prior to Jorge, the family has , good-bye- hosted students from Brazil, Japan, and Germany. This August, the family will welcome their fifth, another student from Japan. The family reports that they've encounted few, if any, problems with any of the students they've sponsored in the past and Jorge, though the oldest they've had, has been no exception. "Jorge has fit into our family well," informed father Wayne, "We've respected his customs and be ours." Jorge's home town of San Miguel De Tuccuman is the capital city of Tuccuman province in Argentina. The city houses a full third of the province's 1.S million people. Being located in the north, the province experiences hotter summers and milder winters in the south. Because Argentina is below the equator its seasons are opposite from those in the United States. As a result, Jorge reports that when be left for nor-the- rn Utah, he flew from summer to winter in nine hours. Jorge states that he's retuiy enjoyed his stay in this country and in Utah; so much so that he would return to finish his schooling. That however, will depend on how Argentina's draft lottery system treats him. Jorge could end up with two years of service, one year or none. Like any other student wishing to come to the U.S. in the program, Jorge had to go through a battery of tests to determine his knowledge of American customs, and his command of English. There was also an oral interview. The last step in the process involved a payment of $3,000. Despite the testing, Jorge admitted that some of his impressions of America before he came here were not what be found since his arrival. "In Argentina most people have is that of the United States as a very modern country, but with crime so bad you couldn't go out after dark," be recalled. "When I got here, however, I found things vants to help them with household chores, but in America the parents dole out chores to the family's children. Jim, the Margetts' oldest son, reports that having another person in the family has required him to make some adjustments too, the most difficult being in the use in the bathroom. However, the ad--' vantages far outweigh any problems resulting from any changes the family shower schedule.
