That was the conclusion reached downtown the by city's redevelopment committee, which met last Thursday night to access the results to date of a poll conducted among those property owners. The committee isn't sure of the exact percentage in favor because individuals some approving owning more than a parcel of property turned back in only one questionnaire. Also the committee still has a few remaining individuals to contact. The committee will meet again on Nov. 18 to review the final results and, if current trends con- tinue, prepare their presentation to the city council, hopefully by the . council's Nov. 18 meeting. At that meeting the committee would turn a copy of the plan over to the council, explain the process behind its development, and recommend the council approve it. If the city council does approve the plan a move to release the downtown redevelopment committee and appoint a formal redevelopment authority will follow shortly thereafter. Such an IOT0 nCJ II A authority would be empowered to act as the driving force behind the implementation of the downtown plan. Because of a large number of businesses already requesting information about locating in the downtown area, the committee also believes some kind of screening board should be established to ensure the viability of all new businesses. Basically the plan proposed by the committee calls for improved private and public parking, refurbishing the exteriors of buildings to their original state; providing for green spaces, trees and plantings; putting in old style street lighting fixtures if possible; and adding sheltered rest areas and benches. All work would be centered around an "Old Town Mid-val- e" theme. tot Sttth Crescent park may havo fcdcnJ fujt&ljiz Joknr Africa tsfcriUSKsstMLbril bttbtsfialwat&ita.l atticf bi tti Sudf Ttki WiatllajL,attS2St lSi Vaf SeMelJfe AB acIf motor-vehicl- e nation this cidents in could be eliminated and the money ($35.8 billion) used for other purposes, 55 cents for every dollar spent by consumers on gasoline and oil could be refunded or 52 cents for every dollar spent by consumers on new and used automobiles could be . rebated, says the National Safety Council.
