Jordan band psyched for Disneyland The excitement and enthusiasm band-roocoming from Jordan High School's is not characteristic of the typical premature spring fever syndrome which is starting to set in at local high schools, but it signals the final countdown toward the band's Disneyland performance tour over the President's Day weekend. "Some of us have been to Disneyland with our families," Todd Bonham, band president said, "but never with a group organization." Kelley Close, senior saxophone player, said, "Everyone in the band is real excited." Sophomore flutist Pam Graesser quickly added, "excited isn't the word, I can't even sleep at night!" These comments are typical of memband who will be bers in the second long distance excurtaking their sion in two years and the first trip outside the state of Utah. Miss Graesser said most of the band members have each sold candy, light bulbs and washed windows to get enough money to go." "Everyong has really worked hard for this trip," Dean Morrill, senior tuba player said. "But what is real neat," Miss Close said, "is that it is now 'our' band does this and 'our' band does that instead of 'my' band does this and 'my' band does together," Mrs Julie Christofferson, band director, said. For some students the Disneyland trip is a family affair and many recognize the excursion is really a bargain price-wis- e, too. "It's especially good for my family," Vivian McAllister, drum majorette, said, "because my sister is going as a flag twirler and my mother is going as a chaperone." Mrs Christofferson said. Some students merely keep their after school jobs and use that money to go on the trip," she added. "People really are pretty nice to us and are really trying to help us out. Most of them say we never did this when we were in band but we're glad you guys get the opportunity to do so," Miss Graesser said. Each of the band students keeps track of his or her own financial earnings Mrs Christofferson said it will be difficult for some of the band members to earn enough money to go on the Feb. 0 trip even though the band has had an excellent fund raising concert and Saturday "Fun Fair." Therefore donations and assistance are still being accepted by the band, Mrs Christofferson said. "Everyone is at fever pitch," Mrs Christofferson said. "The tour and the district solo and ensemble festival coming up are really exciting for these students, and it's a good part of their learning and educational experience. Morril, a senior and the band's only tuba player, admitted it is difficult trying to compete with the trumpet section, let alone simple carry the huge instrument, . but his comments sum up the feeling of band members. "I love being in this band," he said. "I only wish I was in it last year and that this year wasn't my through the various fund raising projects, Sandy mayor reacts to news story Sandy Mayor, Paul Thompson, reacted today to what he called contained in a and story carried Tuesday in a Salt Lake City paper concerning the city's new beer ordinance.
