Parents of Columbia students attending elementary are being invited to attend a "Christmas Around the World" program to be held this evening (Dec. 17th) beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the gymnasium. Third grade students will be performing through song, dance the Christmas and skits traditions of ' Germany, Italy, Mexico and the Netherlands. A general PTA meeting will precede the program. Shauna Donaldson's class will be singing the song "Buon Natalie" and will tell the legend of La Befona, an old woman who brings gifts to children in Italy. Kathryn Milkanin's class will tell the story of St. Nicholas in the Louise Bishop's class will sing the song, "Pablo, the Reindeer" and will act out the Mexican Christmas tradition of breaking a WEST JORDAN. The names of students sreceiving the honor of Panther of the Month for November and December at Joel P. Jensen Middle school have been announced. An assembly was held in their honor on Dec. 11th and the names of the student winners included: 9th graders, fHemaloto Katoa, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sioeli Katoa; Jill Mrs. Taylor, daughter of Mr. and E. Taylor; Mark Owens, son of Mr. and Mrs. John K. Owens, and Gina Fox, daughter of Mr. and '." Mrs. Terry L. Fox. The names of 8th grade student honorees were: Greg Whicker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Whicker, Leigh Davis, daughter of Mrs. Lynda pinata. The combined class choirs will and Holly sing "Pinecones Berries," "Silver Bells," and "We Wish You A Merry Christmas." The third grade teaching team are expressing appreciation to Kathy A. Denos, the piano player, and Saundra Walters and Kim Baumgardner for the decorations. Netherlands and will sing, "Look, There is the Streamer," and "Nicholas, I Beg of You." The tradition of the Christmas tree will be told by students in Nancy Rinlisbach's class and the children will sing "Oh Christmas Tree." Terra Linda Announces Officers . WEST JORDAN. Terra Linda elementary school administrators are announcing members of the new student council and winners of the spelling bee contest. Primary elections were held on a grade basis from grades three through fifth to elect candidates for student body president, secretary and treasurer. The existing Student Council Charter had to be rewritten to include sixth grade to now returning students, elementary school. Each candidate was required to have an academic grade of "C" or better and no unsatisfactory marks in citizenship Student officers elected were: Melissa Pilcher, president; Brennan Bates, Tyler Mons, secretary; and Todd first place, Amy Gayler, Jonathon Adam Minson and Campbell, Whitlock, principal. In November a spelling bee was held for students in grades three through six. Students were given a list of spelling words to study for one week prior to the event. At the end of the week, each student was given a written test and the Killpack; Cheryl second place, Amanda Desmond, Emily Lever, Cynthia Smith, Kipp Jamison, Dawn Peterson, Mike Curtis, Daisy Decker, Angela Reading and Ami Toone. Sixth grade winners were: first students receiving the highest scores were invited to participate in the spelling bee, during which students were given words from a special word list to spell against the clock for a predetermined amount of time. The grades and names of the student winners included: Third grade, first place, Mathew Bess, Charisa Shiflet, Jacob Findlay, Melissa Campbell, Shellie Sacco, Jodie Nashe, Ken Bess, Kathryn Lever, and Tiffany Seeley.
